In 1967, after the passing of Gollapudi Veeraswamy, Subbarao took the reins of the publishing house, determined to uphold his father's legacy. Despite the challenges of his father's sudden death, Subbarao successfully propelled the company forward, making it a beloved name among Telugu readers.
Tragedy struck again on August 8, 1977, with the untimely passing of Subbarao. His wife, Suryavati, bravely took over the management, ensuring the continuity of the Gollapudi legacy. Their son, Gollapudi Veera Venkata Nagendra Kumar, later assumed leadership, embracing both traditional literary values and the evolving demands of modern times. Our Story
The origin of Gollapudi Veeraswamy & Son dates back to the early 1920s, when Mr. Gollapudi Veeraswamy, an ordinary middle-class man, started selling books in old trunks on trains to support his family. His unwavering commitment to literature led him to publish his first book in 1926, a Telugu commentary on the Bhagavad Gita co-authored with Sri Malladi Lakshmi Narasimhamurthy. This publication marked the beginning of our journey as a respected Telugu book publisher.
Gollapudi Veeraswamy’s only son, Gollapudi Veeravenkata Subbarao, initially pursued his own path in the publishing world. He started selling books from various publishers at the Rajahmundry Godavari Railway Station, much like his father. Over time, his efforts and dedication contributed significantly to the growing popularity of Gollapudi books, establishing a loyal readership across Andhra Pradesh.
